Drumaness Mills 1
Wellington Rec 1
DRUMANESS Mills picked up their third draw in succession when they
shared the spoils with Wellington Rec at Meadowvale, but this was
another game they should have won in their bid to avoid the drop
from the Premier Section.
The Mills are third from bottom and are three points above Comber
Rec, but have played four games more and four points clear of bottom
placed Holywood, but have played three games more than them.
Their remaining games are against Albert Foundry (home), Malachians
(away), Killyleagh YC (away), and Ards Rangers (home).
Drumaness started this encounter well and Gavin McEvoy crossed for
Owen Wright, but he headed over from close range. Disaster then
struck the Mills after 12 minutes when a mix-up between goalkeeper
Ryan Campbell and defender Aidy Kelly allowed the Wellington forward
to nip in and open the scoring.
With 20 minutes gone Brian McIlmurray, who has been playing out of
his skin in recent weeks, had a shot deflected for a corner and ten
minutes later Ryan Kane had a shot from close range well saved by
the Wellington goalkeeper.
Drumaness were now the dominant force and two minutes after the
break McIlmurray forced the Wellington goalkeeper into another
excellent save.
The equaliser wasn't long in coming and what a goal it was from Owen
Wright. With 53 minutes gone Wright hammered the ball into the top
corner of the net from 25 yards out to make it 1-1.
The Mills went all out for the winner, but Wright and Tommy
Williamson both had shots blocked close in. With 66 minutes gone
Wright had another shot well saved and a minute later a McIlmurray
strike hit the post.
The Mills continued to call the shots, but they were completely out
of luck in front of goals with Chris McVarnock also hitting the
woodwork in the 85th minute.
