DRUMANESS played some of their best football of the season when they
beat Dunmurry Rec at Meadowvale.
This victory helped Donal Bell's side move out of the bottom three
in the Premier Section, but both Comber Rec and Holywood, the two
teams below them in the table, have games in hand.
The Mills started brightly and took a 10th minute lead when Paul
Walsh fired home from close range after a shot from Donal Kennedy
was blocked into his path.
The visitors were presented with a great chance to equalise in the
20th minute after a rare error from Aidy Kelly, but their striker
missed from 10 yards out.
With 35 minutes gone Gavin McEvoy took off an a mazy run, but his
shot into the box evaded everyone and went wide.
Just on the stroke of half-time, Owen Wright put Kennedy through,
but his shot was well saved.
Two minutes after the break another glorious run from the
industrious McEvoy created a chance for Gary Murdock, but his close
range shot crashed into the crossbar.
Back came Dunmurry and with 55 minutes gone Ryan Campbell made a
superb save to deny the Rec's midfielder a certain goal.
Drumaness made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute when Niall Mulholland was
perfectly placed to steer the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.
Dunmurry were then awarded a penalty in the 85th minute when Paul
Burns was adjudged to have brought down a Rec midfielder, but
Campbell produced the goods when he saved Ricky Rutherford's
penalty.
The visitors were rewarded for their industry when they managed to
score in the 93rd minute, but it came too late to save them.
