Drumaness Mills 2
Comber Rec 2
PAUL Walsh salvaged a point for Drumaness in this Premier Section
basement battle with a late equaliser.
Comber held a 2-1 lead going into the 75th minute, but Walsh was
perfectly placed to convert a cross from Gavin McEvoy and give his
side a share of the spoils.
The Mills started brightly and with five minutes gone a corner from
Neil Gelston was headed onto his own crossbar by a Comber defender.
Five minutes later Donal Kennedy drilled a good effort narrowly wide
as the Mills pushed for the breakthrough.
Comber slowly started to claw their way back into the game and they
seized a 30th minute lead when the Drumaness defence was unable to
clear their lines from a corner.
Five minutes before the break Kennedy went close again when he
headed a Gelston free kick wide of the target. The equaliser wasn't
long in coming and with 40 minutes gone Boyd and Kennedy combined to
release McEvoy and he made no mistake from close in.
The Mills' joy was shortlived as Comber went back in front two
minutes later when the home defence was caught sleeping again.
With 65 minutes gone Walsh back-heeled the ball to Kennedy, but his
shot was brilliantly tipped over the bar by the Comber goalkeeper.
Five minutes later Owen Wright fired one wide, but the Mills were
fare from finished.
With 15 minutes remaining Kennedy fed McEvoy out on the flank and
his cross was tucked away by Walsh to secure a merited draw.
