Wakehurst 3
Drumaness Mills 1
DRUMANESS Mills were unlucky not to come away from Wakehurst with a
result in this WKD Intermediate Cup third round tie.
Donal Bell's side were playing their first game since before
Christmas, but they gave as good as they got against an experienced
home side.
Wakehurst were almost given the a dream start when their number 10
broke through the Mills cover and rounded goalkeeper Michael Watson.
However, he was denied by a superb clearance from Gary Murdock in
the second minute.
The Mills started to settle and Paul Walsh and Gavin McEvoy gave
them a foothold in the middle of the park. This duo pushed the Mills
forward at every opportunity and with 20 minutes gone they created
an opening for Niall Mulholland, but he shot wide.
Wakehurst then took the lead five minutes later when the Mills gave
the ball away in the middle of the park and their midfielder raced
clear to beat Watson with a good finish.
The Mills responded immediately and two minutes level they were back
on level terms when Paul Walsh tapped the ball home following a
McEvoy corner.
Back came Wakehurst and with 35 minutes gone the Mills shot
themselves in the foot again when they failed to clear their lines
following a free kick and the home side's number 10 scored his
second goal of the game.
Three minutes later Brendan Ward was desperately unlucky not to
equalise when his header went narrowly wide and just before the
break McEvoy also went close with a header.
Five minutes into the second half the industrious Murdock crossed
for McEvoy, but his header was well saved. Paul Walsh also had a
headed effort go close as the Mills looked to get back on level
terms.
With 65 minutes gone McIlmurray also went close after good work from
Aidy Walsh, but it wasn't to be and Wakehurst finally killed
Drumaness off with a third goal in the 85th minute.
