Newington YC 3
Drumaness Mills 0
DRUMANESS Mills were well beaten by the defending Premier Section
champions and must start winning games soon if they are to avoid a
relegation dogfight at the bottom of the table.
Newington started well and seized a 10th minute lead when their
number 9 fired a free kick past Ryan Campbell. Five minutes later
the busy Gavin McEvoy was unlucky not to bring the sides level when
his free kick crashed off the woodwork.
A dour midfield battle ensued after this, but with 35 minutes gone
Newington went close with a stinging shot that skimmed the crossbar.
The Belfast side hadn't long to wait for their second goal and with
40 minutes gone they duly made it 2-0 when their striker grabbed his
second goal of the day when he lobbed Campbell after a quick
counterattack.
The Mills battled away gamely and on the hour mark Campbell kept the
visitors in the hunt when he saved well from Duffy. Five minutes
later at the other end McEvoy and Donal Kennedy combined to set up
Paul Burns, but the big defender was closed down quickly and was
unable to get a shot in.
Burns was then red carded for a professional foul in the 75th minute
and Newington took full advantage when they made it 3-0 in the last
minute.
