DRUMANESS Mills bowed out of the WKD Intermediate Cup when they travelled to Inverary Park, but gave a good account of themselves against the ‘Wee Glens’.

Donal Bell’s side started well and with just a minute on the clock Chris Teggart had a shot deflected over the bar.

Four minutes later Glentoran did have the ball in the net, but the effort was ruled out for offside. The Mills continued to gave Glentoran something to think about and with 20 minutes gone Stevie Deegan had a header cleared off the line from a John Connolly corner.

Five minutes later the home side took the lead when a free kick deflected off Chris Deegan and flew past Michael Watson on its way to the back of the net.

It didn’t take long for the Mills to respond and with 30 minutes gone Kyle Rogan picked out Gavin McEvoy after a raking run. McEvoy’s shot was parried out by the Glentoran goalkeeper, but Rogan was on hand to steer in the equaliser.

With 35 minutes gone Aidy Kelly was adjudged to have fouled a Glentoran player in the box and the referee immediately pointed to the spot. The Glens’ duly dispatched the penalty to take a 2-1 interval lead.

Drumaness rang the changes at the break and brought on Philip Rogan and Mark Feenan for Teggart and Connolly.

Feenan was in the thick of things right away and with 50 minutes gone he was picked out by Paddy McDonald, but his strike was well saved by the Glentoran goalkeeper.

Two minutes later Brendan Ward clipped over a good cross, but Stevie Deegan headed wide. Feenan then went on a good run, but he too was out of luck when the Glentoran goalkeeper made another good save.

The Glens rode their luck for a while, but they remained dangerous on the break and Watson was forced into a good save with Walsh also clearing a shot off the line.

Drumaness almost snatched a late equaliser when Feenan put Philip Rogan through in the 90th minute, but his strike hit the post and bounced to safety.
